We are currently assembling and annotating genomes of Trypanosoma evansi, the causative agent of Surra. This resource will include complete assemblies, gene annotations, sequencing statistics, and comparative analyses with other kinetoplastid parasites.

What is T. evansi?

Trypanosoma evansi is the causative agent of Surra, a wasting disease that affects a wide range of mammals including horses, camels, cattle, and dogs. It is transmitted mechanically by biting flies (Tabanidae) and affects livestock across Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Kinetoplast DNA

Notably, some T. evansi strains have lost maxicircle kinetoplast DNA due to mutations in the RBP6 gene, which encodes a mitochondrial editing factor. This makes T. evansi a unique model for studying kinetoplast evolution.

Coming Features

The database will include genome browsers with interactive SVG viewers, dotplots for synteny analysis, Circos visualizations, BLAST search tools, and downloadable annotation files in standard formats (GFF3, FASTA, GenBank).
